Carolina in My Mind: A Brief History of North Carolina’s Influential Music Innovators

Rob Ferguson is an Associate Professor of History at Western Carolina University where he teaches courses on North Carolina History, Local History, and Popular Culture. He received his M.A. from Western Carolina University and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His book, Race and the Remaking of the Rural South: Interracialism, Christian Socialism, and Cooperative Farming in Jim Crow Mississippi was published with the University of Georgia Press in January 2018. His work has appeared in the Journal of Southern History, North Carolina Historical Review, Pacific Northwest Quarterly, and Arkansas Historical Quarterly. His research has been funded by the Center for the Study of the American South and the North Caroliniana Society. He briefly moonlighted as a host for a radio show that spotlighted North Carolina musicians. He lives in Sylva where he spends time hiking with his daughters and listening to his record collection well past reasonable hours.

This event is free to the public with a suggested $5-$10 donation and is made possible thanks to the support of the National Endowment For The Humanities and North Carolina Humanities
